Schoolinka & GCE Partner to Bridge the Digital Divide with EdTech for All

Technology has the power to revolutionize education, but it will not reach its full potential unless teachers are equipped with the necessary digital skills. Currently, a significant gap exists: many teachers lack the confidence and training to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms.

According to a 2021 Report by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), over 60% of public primary school teachers in Nigeria lack the digital literacy necessary to effectively engage in e-learning environments.

To address this critical need and unlock the true potential of Education Technology (EdTech),  Schoolinka has partnered with Global Campaign For Education and we are excited to announce our new project EdTech For All: Digital Literacy Training For Teachers and  Policy Advocacy for Edtech Integration

This project is designed to enhance digital literacy and teaching skills of over 2000 Educators in Nigeria and advocate for government funding for EdTech Integration in state-owned primary and secondary schools.

This initiative includes in-person workshops, online resources, partnerships with relevant bodies to reach teachers and ultimately empower teachers to confidently use technology to enhance learning for all students.

We’ve kicked off the project by partnering with Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and SEED Care & Support Foundation to host physical workshops for 500 educators in Ogun and Lagos States over the next two months.

To empower more educators, we are giving 1,500 Educators a 100% scholarship to take our online course “Digital Literacy for Teachers.” This course will be available for Educators later this month.

Beyond training, we are working closely with education stakeholders including State Universal Basic Education Boards and Local Government Education Authorities, Edtech companies, school heads, educators, and students, to push for long-term policy changes and government investment in technology for teaching and learning.

This partnership is a crucial step towards ensuring that educators have the digital skills they need to enhance learning for their students. The three-pronged approach of training, advocacy and strategic partnerships will help lay a strong foundation for a technology-driven transformation of classrooms across Nigeria. We are excited about the impact this partnership will have in the country among the teachers and the students at large.
